WE ARE A TEAM
Together Everyone Accomplishes the Mission
Say: Welcome to our first Connect Week ever! This is a new element of the brand new EPiC First Priority strategy! We are excited to talk about how to connect to our churches, connect to the Lord and connect with our friends here at First Priority!
Give students balloons to blow up… about 10-15 in total. (You could have these blown up before hand if time is a concern)
Say: Some things just seem impossible right? There are many times that we look on the calling to reach the whole world with the GOSPEL and it just doesn’t seem possible to accomplish. Today we are going to talk about how working together will help us accomplish more!
Choose a volunteer. Place ONE balloon on the floor. Flip the table or desk over and then place the flat surface of the table on the single balloon. Ask the student to carefully step on the table… it will pop!
Say: It is impossible for just one balloon to handle the pressure and weight of – STUDENT NAME- because the pressure is too great for just one balloon to handle. Let’s try it again with more balloons.
Place many balloons on the floor (10 or so depending on the size of the table or desk) place the same table on the balloons with all of the balloons touching the flat surface of the table (somewhat evenly). Now ask the same student to stand on the table carefully (help steady them) The balloons will hold the weight as the pressure is distributed evenly.
Say: With many balloons the pressure from the table and – STUDENT NAME- was distributed and the seemly impossible becomes possible! When all of us work to accomplish the mission the pressure and weight becomes easier to bare!
It is the same with the sometimes overwhelming task of sharing the GOSPEL with our whole school! Even though it seems impossible when we work together the mission becomes more realistic. When we add God to mix, well… nothing is impossible with God!
Connect To God (7mins)
Say: Following Jesus is not an individual competition, it is a team sport! We were never meant to follow Jesus by ourselves, in fact, the Bible says:
“It is not good for man to be alone.” – Genesis 2:18
The early church right after Jesus spent a lot of time together encouraging one another in the Lord. They knew that it was vital for them to spend time together to read the Word, eat meals, remember the Gospel and talk about it and spend time in prayer.
“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. – Acts 2:42
When we put our faith in Jesus we become part of a family! That family cares for one another supports one another and accomplishes the mission of God together!
If we are truly a team working together to accomplish the mission of First Priority we need to make sure that we are involved in connecting with other Christians here at school, in our churches and whenever else we can! Did you know God invented the idea of relationships? Friendships are a gift from God. When we spend time together worshiping the Lord and reading His Word we are empowered to fulfill our mission to reach people with Jesus by knowing that we are not alone.
This helps us unite to accomplish our mission of reaching every student on this campus with the life-changing truth of the Gospel! Remember: When we work together everyone accomplishes the mission.
New Believer Moment* (3mins)
Say: Is there anyone here today that made a decision for the first time to follow Jesus last week at Proclaim Week? If you would like to share about why you made that decision we would love to hear from you today! But, we understand if that’s scary and you don’t want to stand up here and share yet.
Give a moment for new believers to share if they are willing
Say: If you made a decision to follow Jesus and you didn’t get a chance to share, or didn’t want to quite yet, make sure you see a student leader after club today. Also, make sure you get a First Priority Bible!
