Welcome (2mins)

Say: Welcome to Connect Week! This is a new element of the brand new EPiC First Priority strategy! We are excited to talk about how to connect to our churches, connect to the Lord and connect with our friends here at First Priority! Raise your hand if you got a chance to go to church this week! …. Awesome! Today we are going to talk about why going to church is so important!

Icebreaker (10mins)

Say: Today we are going to play Life-Size Rock, Paper, Scissors. Everybody, find a partner to start with!

Allow them to break into groups of two

Say: Okay, Life-Size Rock, Paper, Scissors is easy and fun to play. It’s the same rules as the original game but you will use your whole body to make the different signs. To play rock you will crouch down and hug your knees. To play paper you will spread your legs and arms to “flatten” yourself like paper, and for scissors use both hands to feign a chopping motion. Once you when best out of three find another opponent who won their round. We will narrow it down to just to players to determine our final winner!

Play one or two rounds as time allows

Connect To God (7mins)

Say: One of the most important elements of being a follower of Jesus is being part of a great church. Some of us struggle to fit in, maybe at school or with our friends. The church was designed so that everyone could fit in, not just as members, but as a family. The early church was devoted to this idea. They opened up their homes and their hearts to one another. They shared their lives. That’s what the word fellowship means: a sharing or participation in the life of another. But Christian fellowship goes even deeper. It’s not simply sharing our lives; it’s also sharing our experience with Jesus together. Fellowship is a key to success in the Christian life.

It’s important to find a church that teaches the Bible, helps you to worship the Lord, and encourages you to follow Jesus with your whole heart. Once you find that church family, try to get involved in the church as much as possible, being an active participant and not just an attender. We shouldn’t just sit and listen all the time, we should serve others in the church as well.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is passionate about the church. It says:

“Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her” -Ephesians 5:25

Jesus loves the church like a good husband loves his bride. Jesus will never give up on his church. Because Jesus loves the church, and we love Jesus, we should also love the church. This doesn’t mean that it will always be easy to be part of the church, but it is always worth it. We were made to be in fellowship, and fellowship is a key to success in the Christian life.

Say: How do you determine if a church is a good church?

Allow students to answer

Say: Can you think of some examples of the church acting like a family in your life?

Allow students to answer

New Believer Moment(3mins)

Say: Is there anyone here today that made a decision for the first time to follow Jesus last week at Proclaim Week? If you would like to share about why you made that decision we would love to hear from you today! But, we understand if that’s scary and you don’t want to stand up here and share yet.

Give a moment for new believers to share if they are willing

Say: If you made a decision to follow Jesus and you didn’t get a chance to share, or didn’t want to quite yet, make sure you see a student leader after club today. Also, make sure you get a First Priority Bible!

Have student leaders identify themselves

Connect To Church Activity (8mins)

Say: Today –STUDENT NAME- is going to share with us about their church, why they are involved weekly, and how they serve the Lord at their local church.

Have a student leader answer these questions:

  1. What church do you go to? How are you involved?

Encourage the student to explain why being connected to a local church is such a big part of their life.

  1. How has being a part of a church had a positive impact on your life?
