READING THE WORD HELPS GROW US IN OUR FAITH
Time Alone With God is Important For Spiritual Growth
Say: Welcome to Connect Week! We are excited to talk about how to connect to our churches, connect to the Lord and connect with our friends here at First Priority! Who got a chance to go to church this week? …..Awesome!
Say: Today we going to play Ultimate Ninja! The goal is to be the quickest ninja warrior by hitting another player’s hand while dodging other player’s ninja attacks!
Have all players stand in a circle, facing each other, in the middle of the room.
Say: I’m going to count down from three, then everyone can freeze in a ninja pose. To stay in the game, you must not let anyone hit your hand. If someone hits your hand, that hand is “out” when both hands are “out” you must leave the game. Each player takes turns. On a player’s turn, he or she is allowed one motion to attack another player, or one motion to jump or take a large step in any direction. When you attack, the player being attacked is allowed one motion to try to dodge your attack, even if it is not their turn.
Turns go clockwise
Connect To God (7mins)
One of the most important elements of being a Christian is spending time with God. We call this TAG Time. Time-Alone-with-God. Spending time alone with God is important for spiritual growth. One of the primary ways we do TAG time is by reading God’s Word so we can know Him better.
During World War II many of the soldiers wrote letters home to their wives. These women treasured these letters as the only communication they had until their men came home. They would read them over and over to reassure themselves of their husbands’ love. It’s the same for us when it comes to God’s Word. We read it over and over to understand God’s heart for us, and to gain an understanding of what God is like and how God thinks. The Bible is God’s love letter to us.
The Bible is not like a chapter book, going from beginning to end, it’s more like your school library. The Bible, like your library, is organized by themes and authors. As you grow deeper in your knowledge of God’s Word, you will want to grow, not only in learning stories, verses or passages, but also how it all fits together, into one big story about Jesus Christ. The Bible is all about Jesus, and it commutates His love for us. These truths about Jesus, found in God’s Word, actually have the power to change our lives on a daily basis:
“…It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.” -Colossians 1:6
The more time we spend with God’s Word the more it will impact our hearts. Time alone with God is important for spiritual growth and reading God’s Word is one of the most impactful ways that we can spend time with Jesus. As followers of Jesus we should try to schedule some TAG Time every single day!
If you struggle with scheduling TAG Time ask another student to help keep you accountable. This means agreeing to ask each other on a regular basis how TAG Time is going. We spend a lot of time doing things that don’t matter, so we should try and make sure we make TAG Time happen! TAG Time helps make our relationship with Jesus deeper and more intimate!
Say: How does spending time alone with someone help you get to know them better?
Allow students to answer
Say: What are some reasons we struggle to make time for God?
Allow students to answer
Say: How can we encourage each other to do TAG more often?
Allow students to answer

Give a moment for new believers to share if they are willing
Say: If you made a decision to follow Jesus and you didn’t get a chance to share, or didn’t want to quite yet, make sure you see a student leader after club today. Also, make sure you get a First Priority Bible!
