PRAYER IS HOW WE COMMUNICATE WITH GOD
A Healthy Prayer Life Will Lead To A Deeper Relationship With Jesus.
Say: Welcome to Connect Week! We are excited to talk about how to connect to our churches, connect to the Lord and connect with our friends here at First Priority! Who got a chance to go to church this week? ….. that’s great!
Say: Break into pairs, today we are going to play Marshmallow Toss! Choose a partner and line up across from each other.
Set up two lines using whatever objects you have. Each play should stand behind their line. They should be able to toss a marshmallow fairly accurately from one line to the other.
Say: When I say go begin tossing marshmallows into your partners mouth. When I yell switch you will change roles and the thrower will become the receiver. The team who catches the most marshmallows in their mouth wins! Ready. Set. Go!
If you have multiple prizes you can play a couple of rounds as time permits.
Connect To God (7mins)
As we try to grow closer to Jesus, we spend Time Alone with God, or TAG Time. An important element of TAG Time is prayer! A healthy prayer life will lead to a deeper relationship with Jesus. Many people struggle to pray. We’re easily distracted when praying alone or embarrassed when praying out-loud. If you find yourself easily discouraged, take heart to know that even Jesus’ closest followers needed help in this area:
“As he (Jesus) finished (praying), one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray” -Luke 11:1
If Jesus’ inner circle needed some help in this area, how much more do we?! Jesus taught them a simple way to pray. First Jesus taught that we should connect with God in a relational way when we pray, calling Him Father. Jesus also taught us to worship God in our prayers, to pray that God’s priorities would happen in our lives, and that we should pray that we would depend on Him for everything. We should also ask God to check our hearts and motives making sure we have the right heart towards others, and that God would defend us from the enemy.
When we pray these things it help us grow closer to God, and it enables us to enjoy His presence. A healthy prayer life will lead to a deeper relationship with Jesus.
Have you ever noticed how most Christian prayers end? “We pray these things, in Jesus’ name, Amen”? Wonder where that tradition comes from? In John’s Gospel, Jesus tells us often to pray in His name.
“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” -John 14:13
Whenever we acknowledge Jesus when we pray we’re agreeing that:
“…through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.” -2 Corinthians 1:20
Reading the Bible is how God communicate to us. Prayer is how we communicate with Him. One way conversations are boring! Make sure that your TAG Time includes prayer because a healthy prayer life will lead to a deeper relationship with Jesus!
Say: What are some reasons why Christians struggle to pray regularly?
Allow students to answer
Say: How often would you say you text a friend per day? …. Why do we often have time for that but not to communicate with God?
Allow students to answer
