One of my goals for 2025 has been to step out from behind the desk and back into our schools—and let me tell you, it’s already been so life-giving.
When you work “behind the scenes” in ministry, it’s easy to get caught up in the logistics and admin of it all. But there’s nothing like being on a school campus to remind you of your “why.”
A few weeks ago, I had the chance to attend a youth and young adult conference at Calvary Church in Miami. While there, I met two incredible 11th graders, Lauren and Abigail, who lead a First Priority club at Coral Reef High School. With big smiles and warm hearts, they invited me to visit their club—and I took them up on it just a week later.
As I arrived on their bustling campus, a student approached me and asked, “Are you here for First Priority?” I said, “Yes!” Without hesitation, he walked me straight to the cafeteria where the club meets. I was immediately impressed—what a beautiful display of student leadership and hospitality.
Once the club started, Lauren, the club president, kicked things off with a fun icebreaker that also doubled as a way to form discussion groups. Then Abigail, the vice president, led the teaching for the day, focusing on peace, anger, and managing our emotions. She shared Scripture, real-life application, and then opened the floor for students to dive deeper through discussion. As I moved around the room, I was genuinely moved by the depth of the conversation. These students weren’t just attending—they were engaged, thoughtful, and encouraging one another in their faith.
Lauren and Abigail are standout leaders—graceful, prepared, and committed. I’m so thankful for them and the incredible team of student leaders.
This is what we call a model club: 100% student-led, full of energy, rooted in truth, and centered on Christ. What a joy it was to witness it firsthand.
